The WriteIdea Festival 2012…featuring Jane!
The WriteIdea Festival 2012 - 9th-18th November 2012 - East London's Free Reading Festival
Featuring Jane Davis at 'Don't Forget The Reader' (FREE)
Tuesday 13th November, 7pm, Idea Store Whitechapel
Next week sees the start of the Idea Store WriteIdea Festival 2012, the fourth edition of East London's unique and free reading festival. Running from 9th-18th November, WriteIdea is going from strength to strength and is bringing some excellent authors, as well as ever growing audiences, together for a programme of events covering fiction, history, politics, poetry, identity and much more.
The WriteIdea Festival is hosted by Idea Store, places within the Tower Hamlets district of London which offer more than just a library service but also adult education, career support, training, arts and leisure pursuits and meeting places within the local communities. The Reader Organisation work closely with Idea Store, running weekly Get Into Reading groups in Canary Wharf, Bow, Whitechapel and Chrisp Street Idea Stores, as well as in two of their libraries - Bethnal Green Library and Cubitt Town Library.
Highlights of this year's festival include An Evening with Jonathan Coe, one of Britain's best-selling authors, a live cabaret-style theatre performance of 'One Georgie Orwell', combining Orwell's words from books and essays with original music, as well as a number of events that will explore London through literature and authors associated with the city - from those with a local connection to the East End to other big names including Owen Jones and Patrick Gale.
Amongst all the writing, WriteIdea isn't forgetting the role of the reader in proceedings - as part of the festival, 'Don't Forget The Reader' is at Idea Store Whitechapel on Tuesday 13th November, 7pm, featuring our very own director Jane Davis. Jane will be discussing the challenges and delights for readers in Great Britain today on the panel, alongside writer Sam Leith and director of The Reading Agency Miranda McKearney. The event is free - as are all the events happening within WriteIdea 2012, and all events will also be British Sign Language interpreted.
Our London team will also be flying the flag for The Reader Organisation at the festival - Get Into Reading London Project Manager Penny Markell and Get Into Reading Project Worker for Idea Store Valerie Nobbs will be delivering a shared reading taster session before Jane's appearance on the panel from 6-7pm on Tuesday 13th, giving the chance for those who don't already know about it to Get Into Reading for themselves.
