Lemn Sissay at Rhyme and Reason 4
Lemn Sissay: Rhyme and Reason 4 Southwark Libraries Poetry Festival
Monday 11th February, 7-8.30pm
Canada Water Library, London, SE16 7AR
Award-winning poet, lyricist and patron of The Reader Organisation Lemn Sissay will be appearing at Canada Water Library as part of Rhyme and Reason 4, the poetry festival that is running within Southwark Libraries this month.
Born in Lancashire of Ethiopian parents, Lemn is known for performances of his poetry solo, in plays and with music, and is a passionate supporter of improving the lives of Looked After Children through literature, something he spoke about at our 2012 Annual Conference. Join Lemn, official poet of the London 2012 Olympics, as he talks about his life and reads from his work at this special free event, which will be followed by an audience Q&A session and book signing afterwards.
Rhyme and Reason 4, Southwark Libraries poetry festival, is running from 1st-16th February and features a range of events across libraries in Southwark, including the Poetry Platform which will be touring around the libraries, giving anyone the chance to hop aboard and read their favourite poems. The Poetry Platform will be at Canada Water today, then Newington (12th Feb), John Harvard (14th Feb) and Camberwell (15th Feb), running from 10am-5pm.
The Reader Organisation is currently running weekly Get Into Reading groups at Peckham and Canada Water Libraries, and 6 libraries in Southwark are home to our specially selected range of Feel Better books. Why not pick up one while you're in your local library? For more information about the groups we have running in Southwark and across London, see our website.
The event with Lemn Sissay is free, but booking is essential. For more information, call 020 7525 1570 or visit the Southwark Council website.
