The Penny Readings celebrates 10th anniversary with Christmas festival
The Reader is celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Penny Readings with a Christmas festival in St George’s Hall on Sunday 15 December. The free Penny Readings Festival will be open to the public and take place in the Great Hall from 1.30pm, alongside the ticketed Ha’penny and Penny Readings at 2.30pm and 6.30pm in the Concert Room.
The Penny Readings Festival will feature reading activities and games for all ages, stalls, refreshments, the chance to polish your read-aloud skills and much more.
Jane Davis, The Reader's Founder and Director, said:
“We’re thrilled to be celebrating the 10th Penny Readings with a free Christmas festival, as well as two great shows. There will be something for everyone, whether you’d like to join us in the audience, finish off your Christmas shopping, entertain the kids for a couple of hours during the afternoon, or donate books to help our work.
It’s going to be a magical day in St George’s Hall.”
The Penny Readings has become a staple of the Liverpool festive scene and returns with special guests including Frank Cottrell Boyce and the Wirral Ukulele Orchestra. The popular Ha’penny Readings will also be back for 2013, packed with comedy, entertainment and readings for children and their families.
Whilst the Festival in the Great Hall will be open for anyone to drop in during the afternoon, tickets for the Penny and Ha’penny Readings are in very high demand so there will be a public raffle to allocate the limited number (one pair per person for the Penny Readings; up to 4 for the Ha’penny).
To register for the raffle, call the Penny Readings hotline on 07812 238 500 or email pennyreadings@thereader.org.uk leaving your name, contact details and which event you would like tickets for. The line will be open from 9am on Friday 15 November until 5pm Friday 22 November (any calls or emails before or after this time will not be entered into the draw).
Roger Phillips will draw the first two winners of Penny Readings tickets live on air on Radio Merseyside on Tuesday 26 November. All winners will be notified by Thursday 28 November.
