Our Calderstones home including The Reader Bookshop & Cafe, The Reader Café, the Calderstones Story, The Storybarn are accessible via a lift, with wheelchair access to all areas.

  • A wheelchair is available on-site for free and is bookable by emailing operations@thereader.org.uk. If you’d like to book a wheelchair for a specific ticketed event, please contact tickets@thereader.org.uk
  • Wheelchair access to the Theatre Room is available via the lift.
  • There is a low level counter for service in The Reader Café.
  • There is ramp access to the entrance at the front of the Mansion House and ground floor access via The Reader Bookshop.

 

  • Assistance Dogs are welcome throughout the Mansion House and to all events.

Toilets and changing facilities

  • Accessible toilets are available on every floor.
  • Baby changing facilities are located in the ground floor accessible toilet.
  • Large format print versions of our brochure or materials for Shared Reading groups are available on request

At the Storybarn we’re pleased to offer the following:

  • Story sharing will be led by a facilitator. If you are in need of bold print, please let
    us know via email.
  • Flexible sessions. If your child prefers to explore our space, there is no need to sit
    for the story.
  • Autism awareness trained staff
  • Visual impairment trained staff
  • First Aid trained staff
  • The Storybarn is breastfeeding friendly
  • Members of staff who speak Polish and Spanish
  • We have automatic doors that allow for large wheelchairs and prams
  • Adjustable tables in our craft room to allow for wheelchairs
  • Accessible parking spaces
  • Light is distributed evenly in the building
  • Building has different textures and colours to distinguish between walls and
    floors
  • Movable furniture in place to allow for more mobility if needed
