Minted: Practical Poetry for Life

The Reader Organisation is proud to announce the arrival of its latest poetry anthology, fresh (we might say mint fresh) from the press.

Minted: Practical Poetry for Life has been edited by godfather of The Reader Organisation and The Reader magazine Brian Nellist and includes fifty essential poems that provide us with what he calls "inexhaustible riches". The anthology brings together poems written between 1500-1900 from such veritable names as Matthew Arnold, Sir Thomas Wyatt, John Donne and John Milton amongst many others, all of which still resonate today, under headings which we can all identify within our own lives, such as: 'Seeking and Doubting', 'Identity Loss' and 'Living for the Moment'.

There's already been an exclusive sneak preview of Minted here on The Reader Online in the form of a Featured Poem picked from the book, and guests at our big Get Into Reading 10th birthday party not only bagged their own copy of the book, but were treated to a performance from the man himself, reading Jonathan Swift's 'On The Death of Doctor Swift'.

Brian insisted that rather than making a conscious choice, the poems within the book chose themselves for selection, and adds:

“This is a travel brochure to encourage your own exploration… The brief characterisations of what’s happening in the lines is there to to suggest their usefulness because that’s what great writing is; useful.”

Get Into Reading group members who couldn't make it along to the party need not worry, as they will be receiving their copy of Minted from their group facilitator in the coming months.
